An Excerpt from Chapter Five...

William draped his jacket over Catherine’s shoulders and they walked down a set of steep steps leading
to the beach. When they got to the sand, Catherine looked up at the sky. The moon was hidden by
silvery clouds quickly rolling across the darkened sky. They began their journey down the beach and
halfway there, the waves became violent, crashing against the shoreline. The mild weather was changing
rapidly. Is this a sign of what is to come, she thought, looking up at the ferocious sky.

A little voice inside her mind told her that she shouldn’t have accepted the invitation, but a stronger
voice inside her heart had won the battle. What was it about him that made her say yes? She just didn’t
get it. There she was a strong, intelligent woman drawn to such a smooth talker. Was it because he was
so handsome, or was it his persistence. Just take a chance, her heart kept saying over and over again.
You’ll never know unless you take a chance. And now, there she was...walking down the beach with
him. Ready to take a chance…

Arriving at the door of his beach house, he turned to her. “Now, I just want to warn you. My house is
not as glamorous or as large as Hugh’s, and you’ll be able to tell immediately that a bachelor lives here.”

Catherine laughed. “Thanks for the warning.”

It began to drizzle. She watched the rain from beneath the patio while William unlocked the door. He
turned back, shifting his body close, drawing her soft body nearer to protect her from the rain. He stared
into her eyes, caressing her cheeks with his hands. “You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,”
he whispered. He continued to glare into her eyes, leaning his body into hers until they united. The rain
began to pour from the sky. She closed her eyes and he continued to gently stroke her face while
pressing his lips to hers, kissing her softly. Her lips trembled. She wrapped her arms around his
shoulders, pulling him closer. Pressing his hands against the small of her back, they embraced for a
passionate kiss. Catherine felt a twinge run up and down her spine, his touch lingering with every
movement.

He opened the door and they went inside. He led her down a dark hallway, into his bedroom. Gripping
her hands softly, he led her deeper into the room. Lightening struck, followed by a thunderous roar. It
was a wicked night and she felt wicked for being there, but she was following her heart, her passion.
Lightening struck again, sending a beam of light through the window, creating a soft glow against their
skin. She began to feel flush as a surge of heat raced through her body. Softly and slowly, she
instinctively moved closer to him. They engaged in another passionate kiss.

Her heart was pounding and she was sure he could feel it pumping through her chest. What am I doing
here? she thought.

His hands traveled slowly across her back, and he unzipped her dress.
